How To Create Free Resources For Blog

Last Updated on December 5, 2021 by

So you want to learn how to create a blog for free on Google and earn money? Blogging is one of the best online businesses to start without any investment, and the sky is the only limit when it comes to your blogging earning potential.

Most bloggers can reach their financial freedom only after 1 year of starting a blog and you'll see why.

In today's guide, we'll see everything you need to know to create a blog for free and make money.

We'll see how to pick the right niche for our blog, the key differences between paid and free hosting and we'll end up monetizing our blog to squeeze money out of it.

And all this is 100% free. Even if you have no clue what blogging is, you can still follow up with me and end up creating a stunning blog that makes you tons of money.

Let me warn you that this is a well in-depth guide, so I recommend bringing a cup of coffee and start taking notes.

A small secret, blogging becomes passive over time; you can literally make money while sleeping.

However, we have to admit that it does require too much work only in the beginning. But over time, you have to spend only 4 hours per week maintaining your blog; this will leave you with enough free time to spend with friends & family.

Now you might be asking "Ok, I decided to learn how to create a blog for free on Google and earn money, but what should I blog about?"

It's true, you can blog about anything, but you also want to pick a niche that has a profitable need, right?

The secret lies in creating topics that will help you attract visitors because our main goal here is to monetize our love of blogging.

BUT, WHAT IS A NICHE?

A niche is simply a topic or an industry that is mostly identifying your blog.

In my case, my niche is "money" since I'm writing about making money online and online business.

It's preferable picking a niche that you're interested in and love to read and write about because picking a niche for the sake of money can lead to burnout and end up giving up.

Picking the right niche can be crucial to your success so that you'll enjoy writing and be well-rewarded at the same time, who doesn't want that?

To help you choose the right profitable niche for your blog, I will share with you some key points to keep in mind when choosing a niche.

Before picking a niche, you should:

  • Determine your passion and interests: In order to win the game of blogging, you need to pick topics that you'll never get tired of reading, writing, and sharing about. That's the big secret, blogging is a marathon and if you're not ready to be patient, then you should opt for other businesses.
  • Do some market research: You don't want to write about topics that people are not interested in. For example, no one will be interested in "Christmas decoration trees" during the summer. You need to know whether people are interested in the niche you're choosing to write about. To determine the demand for your topics, you can check Google Trends & Pinterest.
  • Review the income potential: We deserve to make some money out of this hobby, right? Before picking a niche, you need to check whether your niche will bring in some cash, to do so, you can visit other competitors' websites and see if they're integrating some ads, affiliate links, promoting some products, and so on, if so, then your niche is a profitable one.

As an example, below are some profitable niches (this is not the ultimate list of profitable niches):

  • BEAUTY & FASHION
  • HEALTH & WELLNESS
  • PARENTING
  • MAKE MONEY ONLINE
  • SELF IMPROVEMENT
  • FOOD
  • PERSONAL FINANCE
  • TRAVEL
  • LIFESTYLE

In order to own a self-hosted blog for free, you basically need three important things:

  • Domain Name
  • Hosting
  • Platform

A domain name is the name of your blog, in my case, it's "bizznessfromhome.com".

The hosting is simply a place where your data is stored, it's also called the server that makes our blog accessible to people on the internet. It's working 24/7 to provide our website data for our visitors, so thank you hosting!

The platform is what allows you to customize your blog. The top and most recommended platforms are WordPress.org and Blogger.com.

Personally, my blog is set up on WordPress.org, what's nice about WordPress is that you have a variety of choices for themes (blog's design) and plug-ins (apps).

There is plenty of free blog hosting platforms such as Blogger, WordPress, Google Sites, Medium, Tumblr, Weebly, and more. But I highly recommend paying a few dollars a year for your hosting and I will show you why.

Please note that WordPress.org and WordPress.com are completely two different platforms.

CHOOSE A DOMAIN NAME FOR YOUR BLOG

After picking a niche for your blog, it's time to choose a domain name for your own site where people can type in your URLs and get your site shown.

The domain name consists of the branding of your blog; it's the word/phrase that comes before the .com, .net, .org, etc. In my case, my domain name is Bizznessfromhome.

As you can see I select a domain name that is related to my blog name, memorable, and more likely to drive traffic.

I will help you choose the right domain name for your blog.

So, before choosing a domain name for your blog, keep in mind these 5 important things:

  • Your domain name should be a dot-com
  • The domain name should be short but memorable
  • Your domain name should be easy to pronounce
  • Your domain name should be available and not trademarked
  • Preferable to choose a domain name that reflects your brand

FREE BLOGGING PLATFORM VS SELF HOSTING

free blogging platforms vs self hosting

You can create a blog for free on Google and different platforms, but if you're planning to earn money from your blog, I wouldn't recommend going for free options.

Instead, you can host your blog for as cheap as $2.95/money on Bluehost, they also provide an amazing service and you will never complain about your website's performance.

To put you there, let's see the main differences between free and self-hosted platforms.

You don't own your Blog when choosing Free platforms:

Simply, you don't own the site, the free platform provider is the one that does.

Also, you don't have any access to manage your blog's data, visitors and security.

And the most terrifying part is that you can lose all the content that you're trying hard to create on these free platforms. It actually happened to me a lot of times.

It's similar when you're living for free in an empty apartment of a friend, there is always a high risk of leaving at any time because you don't own the property!

However, if you're just taking blogging as a hobby, then you don't have to pay a single penny for other hosting platforms.

Your domain name will look somehow spammy:

With a free blog, you don't have the total access to personalize your domain name. I mean, your domain name will be something like freeblogplatform.blogname.com.

Personally, I wouldn't take any blog like this seriously, because it looks unprofessional and I will be worried to lose my personal data if I accessed it.

A personalized domain makes your business looks legit and branded, even if you're just a beginner, people will think you're a guru in your industry.

Instead, if you're using a personalized domain, your domain will be blogname.com instead of freeblogplatform.blogname.com.

Limited Bandwidth with Free Platforms:

Bandwidth is the amount of data your blog can transfer to your readers in a given period of time.

However, if your blog is still new with little content, then limited bandwidth won't present any issue.

But as you load more content, your website speed will be also more and people will have big problems navigating your blog.

This will also affect your Google ranking.

Note that a user can only wait for 2 seconds to see content; otherwise, he'll leave your site and click somewhere else.

Difficulties to monetize your free blog with Affiliate marketing:

Most big affiliate programs and networks require owning a website to have the access to promote their products & services.

Having a free hosted site tells affiliate programs and brands that you're not taking your business seriously.

There are only a few affiliate programs that don't require a self-hosted website such as Bluehost, GetResponse, ActiveCompaign, and Tubebuddy

Hosting isn't that expensive!

If you still think hosting is expensive, then what about a cup of coffee?

You can easily start your blog on Bluehost for under $3 a month! That's nothing.

You will get free themes to customize your blog with and also you have full manageability of your site.

4-Make money from your free blog

After getting some visits consistently to your BlogSpot blog, you can consider applying for Google Adsense to display ads on your blog and make money.

You should consider writing unique articles and setting up the essential pages (Privacy Policy, Terms of Service, About, Contact) before applying for Google Adsense.

Many people say that a decent amount of visitors is required each day to apply for AdSense,

I don't think so, I've applied to Google AdSense with a brand new blog with fewer to no visitors and I've got approval.

Unique well-detailed content and the essential pages are the only things to keep in mind before applying to AdSense.

Don't get discouraged if you didn't get approval quickly, I've applied more than 10 times before getting approval.

PLUGINS YOU SHOULD ADD TO YOUR BLOG

Think of a plugin as an application or a tool that brings value to your blog.

Plugins will make your blogging experience easy and enjoyable. They came to ease our blogging life.

There are thousands of WordPress plugins out there, but don't worry! You don't have to install them all.

If there's functionality you want to add to your WordPress blog, there's a good chance that you'll find a plugin that does the job.

Let's see now the recommended plugins every new blogger should add to his WordPress blog:

  • Yoast SEO
  • Akismet Anti Spam
  • Parmalinks
  • Insert Headers & Footers

THE ESSENTIAL PAGES FOR YOUR BLOG

Providing some static information to your audience is something important, this will help others know about you, your blog and your goals. This should also cover the marketing and legal aspects of your blog.

These are the main pages you have to set up before even start blogging; these pages will also help you when applying to ads providers such as Google Adsense and Ezoic:

  • About Page
  • Contact Page
  • Privacy Policy Page
  • Terms of Services Page

HOW TO MAKE MONEY BLOGGING

The most exciting part that you all waiting for.

I will walk you through the best ways you can use to monetize your blog and turn your hobby into a full-time money making machine.

As a piece of advice, you shouldn't focus on the money-making part right away. Focus on providing valuable content that your audience will enjoy reading and sharing with others and the money will come easier than you think.

How do Bloggers Make Money: 5 Top Strategies to Monetize Your Blog.

1-Advertising

Most bloggers make money through ads, Advertising can be done in two ways:

  • Ad Networks: Google Adsense, Ezoic, Mediavine, Monumetric, Adthrive can place their ads on your blog, in return, you'll make money either when someone clicks on the ads or by 1000 impressions made by visitors on your ads. You should think of increasing your blog's traffic so that you can get a good amount of clicks and impressions and then make a good amount of money. As a beginner, you can join Google Adsense, once you've reached at least 50k impressions per month, you can then switch to Mediavine (well paying than Google Adsense).
  • Direct Advertising: Instead of signing up for an ad network, you can go directly to advertisers or even make them contact you to display their ads on your blog. It's simply selling a portion of your blog for advertising.

2-Affiliate Marketing

Affiliate Marketing is simply promoting other people's products and services and earning commissions whenever someone signs up or buys the product/service.

You can literally make unlimited revenue through affiliate marketing depending on your marketing skills and your blog's traffic.

You can for example write some tutorials or comparison guides and link to your affiliate products within the blog post.

What's delicious about Affiliate Marketing is that:

  • You don't have to bother your head with any inventory, because you don't own the products.
  • You've got the right to choose the products you want to advertise, unlike ad networks.
  • You have a big variety of products inside every niche.
  • Affiliate income is passive income where you can make money while sleeping.

Go now and sign up for these affiliate networks where you can find thousands of products and services to promote inside your blog:

  • CJ Affiliate
  • Clickbank
  • Flexoffers
  • AWIN
  • Impact
  • Shareasale
  • Digistore 24
  • Amazon Associates Program
  • Igain

3-Selling Physical & Digital Products

You can sell your physical and digital products through your blog.

Digital products can range from printables to ebooks and planners.

Regardless of your niche, you can always create a course or an e-book and start selling it.

4-Selling Services

You can list services inside your blog and get people to buy your gigs directly, maybe you're a freelance graphic designer, you can promote your design skills and gain clients through your blog.

Companies, brands and business owners tend to use bloggers to gain more exposure and promote their brands and products.

FINAL THOUGHTS ON HOW TO CREATE A BLOG FOR FREE ON GOOGLE AND EARN MONEY

This is how you can create your blog for free on Google and earn money.

Although it requires some investment (as cheap as $3 a month), I always recommend starting your blog using self hosted platforms like Bluehost.

You will notice why having full manageability of your blog will help you gain more blogging experience easily with no extra fees.

Having a free blog hosted on Blogspot is perfect if you're not planning to take your blogging activity as a real business.

Otherwise, if you want to make the real money out of your blog, then it is worth that $2.95/month cheapest investment.
